Christianity are just dumb sometimes. Not that unbelievers/non-
believers/people of other religions are unintelligent. I've had good
discussions with them, but I was talking to someone last night that
brought up some things that are absolutely silly (in my mind).
Mind you, I make these statements and answer questions from a
Christian perspective because I am one.
//why is there evil in the world?
that's age old. there's evil because there's evil. we've all heard the
stories a million times. no need to rehash. read genesis 1-4. aside
from that, we think of ourselves too much and others not enough.
that's 90% of the problem.
//God sucks because hell exists.
you have to be kidding me. hell is a perfectly logical place. for one,
for those that are up-to-date on events, there was a mass rebellion of
about 1/3 of all angels to which God battled an eyelash and said "oh,
that's cute" before dispelling the entire thing. i'll come back to
this later.
so why are people going to hell? because people that feel the way
satan does should be there. allow me to explain from a human
perspective: you have a person that you are constantly reaching out to
in any way you can that makes it clear to you that they want nothing
at all to do with you in any way, shape or form. not the next day,
month, year or even decade. you can feel free to exit their life and
stay there thank you very much. do you invite this person to your
birthday party? no. what about your wedding? no. why? they wouldn't
come anyway. not to a day in a place that is all about you and the
ones you love and your happiness.
this is heaven: a place about God. loving Him, being with Him and
other people that He loves forever and ever. why would it be
considered logical for Him to have people there that are going to
spend an eternity miserable being there because they hate God. they
should be somewhere else. not suggesting a lake of fire and torment;
honestly, considering what you'd be missing, the separation would be
torment enough.
//but it's so exclusive... like either this way or no way at all...
and your point? love is exclusive because you are involved with
another person that is giving you access to who they are. if you were
dating, you would be like "it's so exclusive.... i dunno..." because
your significant other expects you to not sleep with other people. or
have sex with other people. that's kind of exclusive. we even modify
significant portions of our behavior for these people that we end up
breaking up with a few months later or years later in some cases, but
God? meh, fuck Him....
smh... come on, people.
//and what about the people that don't hear the message? he only gave
his message to the hebrews in the Old Testament (OT) and....
okay, guys. do your homework. nineveh is not a hebrew nation, but God
sent a prophet there. in the New Testament (NT), he gives a command to
go out to the gentiles (me and you there) to give His message of
salvation, hope and power. but even in the OT, there are stories (like
the Jonah story) that shows God reached out to foreign nations even
then. do you really think that the bible contains an account of every
single time God sent someone somewhere to say something? give me a
break. it should be obvious that it couldn't happen or the bible would
be a book the size of the wall of china. just because you don't see it
happening or read that it happened doesn't mean that it didn't happen.
if i don't tell you i eat, i still eat. if i don't tell you i breathe,
i still breathe. people act like just because it isn't in the book
that it couldn't have occurred. stop being stupid and obnoxious. that
isn't even a valid statement. look at current history books (and our
ability to be a million times more precise).
//what about miracles? you don't have to be a christian to do those?
nope and that's why is isn't a foundational mark of being a christian.
love is. the plagues in exodus - except one - were duplicated by some
court wizards that were standing by. hello. there are three sources of
power in the world. heaven, hell, and us. God gave us this world and
works with and through us to direct its course. since he's not the
only one with power (although he is the only one with all of it), it
would make sense that he's not the only one that could cause something
we consider miraculous. false prophets with the ability to do things
that wow people are in every bush and corner. what of it? i could
explain, but here's the sum up in brief: God isn't the only channel to
miracles if that's what you want. besides that, He has better things
to do than entertain you.
More thoughts of mine on God and our thoughts on Him to come.
