I don't think it's a good idea for a whole nation of people to be excited about the death of someone. It's different on a TV show or a movie or a comic book or a video game. Real lives are different.
You know what? Osama Bin Laden was fucked up. He was also trained to be a master Tactician by our own CIA by my reading. He took that training and did some things that were really bad to do. He killed lots of people and pissed off a lot more of them. It took ten years to find him and we finally did last night and he was shot and everyone thought it was awesome...
...so why do I feel so uneasy about this? Something is off. There's too much celebrating. Everyone is too excited. Too relieved. I mean, I'm glad he can't do what he did anymore, but he was a person that died and I don't even want to know what he's facing on the other side right now.
On the other hand, if his organization is that big, then I'm almost sure it would have to be de-centralized. I think we are making a mistake if we think that the death of this man will be the end of terrorism as a whole or even slow it down for long. This moment, more than any other one, requires wide open eyes. I think that, with all the hoopla going on right now, we may just miss something more important than his death. I don't even know what I'm looking for, but I'll know when I see it.
Thanks Quis. You're not alone in the feeling, for sure. No matter how bad, evil, or whatever he was portrayed to be, he was still a living, breathing human being. Why celebrate in the death of something God gave life to? Just my thought...
ReplyDeleteWell, I posted a pretty good comment a few minutes ago but closed the window before I realized there was a captcha. Don't know what I can't remember those things. ANYWAY, this comment isn't as good as the last, but I think I'm hitting the high points I wanted to make.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your final paragraph in your post. This man was remotely leading a terrorist group. Other people were actually carrying out the dirty work. They are still capable of doing so. So, I truly do not believe that much will change here. I hope and pray that our military and government remains vigilant so that we won't miss the next "attack." Terrorism is global; it is not tied to this one group. So I really don't see how this is much of a victory, but that's just my opinion.
Also, I feel for Bin Laden's family. I'm sure SOMEONE loved him and is mourning him. Even though the Bible does say that "when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy," I still feel sadness when someone dies without knowing our Savior.
