food is not entertainment

On a different note, I was msging with the guy who does the minimalist blog thing on facebook. I took exception to his comment the “food is not entertainment.”

I very much agree with him there

Really? I mean it can be totally overboard I understand that. Maybe enjoyable is a better word?

i would think food can be enjoyable without being entertaining. food is not entertainment.

Hmmm. But dining out can be entertaining, no?

if it involves other things, yes. when i dine out, i don't entertain myself with food. i entertain myself with my friends or what may be on tv. on a literal level: food itself is not entertainment. that is what walking, tv, movies, video games and hanging out with friends are for. food should be consumed because we are hungry and our body needs nourishment, not because we are bored or depressed or just feel like snacking at random.

Ok. I agree with that last sentence. And perhaps I am sensitive to this concept because I love to eat. Not overeat, or eat because I depressed. That’s what drinking is for

The same person you are arguing loves and enjoys food just like you do. He doesn't think snacking is a good thing, however. He doesn't think food should be eaten people don't have other things to do. Sensitivity is usually something that should be introspectively analyzed. You should think about that, I think.

To be honest I’m not sensitive enough about it to want to devote the time for introspection. I like to eat and cook and I spend a lot of time thinking about it. But generally I think it’s in a healthy, avocational way.

i see. as you wish. at least, try not to take issue so soon before thinking about it just a bit if you don't wish to waste time introspecting.
