Today, I went to the funeral of a childhood family friend. She was the first kindness I ran into after I moved to Georgia from New York. She was fiery, but kind and she did her best to do right by everyone even when it was terribly inconvenient.
She died at 91. Many people don't live that long; in fact, according to the obituary, she outlived three of her kids. Not one, but three.
There were hardly dry eyes and definitely no unmoved souls. As for how I felt, I was okay with it; she lived a long life and she loved everyone she came across. It was a goods thing that she go; wishing for her to remain is selfishness at best.
She will be missed and she is definitely loved. That much was clear. When I pass from this world, maybe I will leave an impression like that.
